nitroglycerin 's review for:

Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy
4.75
dark mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

What I liked:
  • Inti and Aggie. Their relationship. Their relationship with their parents. The way they look out for each other.
  • Indi and Duncan. Two people who need to find their right other to balance and challenge at the same time.
  • The premise of conservation which seemed well researched for the most part.

What I disliked:
  • The setting was Scotland. The author doesn’t know Scotland (or the U.K.). So many things that pulled you out of the story because they were just not how things would be here. Simple things like the “jugs of beer” (pints please), Scotland doesn’t have mayors, etc. Please just if you’re going to write about a country you haven’t been, at least do some research. I feel these things could have been found out on Wikipedia or youtube.
  • Animal death
