In some ways I loved this book, but it was also so hard to continue to want to pick up for whatever reason. I love science fiction that's set in parts of the world I'm not familiar with, that tell global impact stories that aren't centered in American culture and politics. I loved Okorafor's aliens, and only wish they were explored more. The extraterrestrial interest in non-human lives on earth was particularly apt. I struggled with the liberal blending of this first contact story with the cast of human characters with these unexplained magical realism superpowers. I liked them and their abilities and the woven story, but it was a bit cluttered with a lot of questions left unanswered.
