I read this heart-wrenching book in little over two hours and it's just ripped my goddamn heart right out. Made worse by reading that Patrick Ness wrote it after the late Siobhan Dowd asked him to, after having had the idea but knowing she didn't have enough time left to write it herself.

A Monster Calls is a truly beautiful about one of the most tragic things that can happen in a person's life, especially a child, confused and scared by his own thoughts and feelings, unwilling to admit a terrifying truth.
