Just watch For All Mankind if you want to see this premise done much better. The characters in this book were absolutely paper thin, and the story spent more time talking about the protagonist’s perfect, boring personal life than an actual alternate history of the space program.  Also this book has the most embarrassing sex scenes I’ve ever read. Genuinely made me cringe.
