The dialogue hasn’t aged well here with all the machismo (though I suppose Johns could just be showing how toxic military culture was at this time?). If you’ve been reading Geoff Johns’ run up to this point, there really isn’t much new here other than a few more teases for Blackest Night. It’s a serviceable origin story for Hal Jordan’s career as a Green Lantern, I just wish we got more time with characters like Kilowog and Tomar-Re (though I suppose if I wanted more of the extended cast, that’s what the Green Lantern Corp series is for). It’s good, but not necessary reading.
