This book is ESSENTIAL reading for ANY white person. I feel like she explained all the parts of myself I’ve been ashamed of in my journey towards racial awareness and gave me the tools to deal with those things so I can work more on being a better ally. Coming to progressive thinking post-college, I often feel like I don’t have the words to describe the inequities I see around me. This book came down to my dreadfully low level of awareness and gave me those words too. I now feel inspired to talk to more white people about how they can shift their perspectives on race and I feel more equipped to be an effective white ally. If you don’t know where to start looking into the issues surrounding race in this country, start with this book and it will catapult you into the journey of learning more and more about race and your responsibility in the conversation about it.
