I'm glad I finally finished this first volume. I really did enjoy the characterization of Demeter and Persephone. Hades is personified as someone who is kind and understands the concept of personal space and consent for the most part, which is nice. Zeus is a jerk, as I usually expect in Greek mythology retellings. Hades comes off as creepy because of the way he watches Persephone from afar and comes off way too strong for my taste when he first kidnaps her. The good thing is he waited for her to consent to do anything with her. However, not being a rapist is the bare minimum. He does try to go above and beyond to accommodate Persephone in the Underworld and give her as much freedom as possible in his realm. As is understandable, she has a hard time adjusting to this new world and refuses to accept it as her permanent new home immediately. This is a pretty typical reaction to kidnapping I'd say. Overall, a good introduction to Persephone. The book starts from before her birth and does a great job of world building. Hope to see the relationship between Hades and Persephone develop more in the next installment
