Second Read (2022): Five stars
Once again I finished reading this with big fat tears rolling down my face. Knowing exactly what is going to happen did not ease the heartache one bit.
This time around I read this after Heir of Fire which was an interesting way to go about it, but I know that we revisit some characters from these novellas in QoS so I didn't mind backtracking in the timeline. I still love this series and am eager to jump into Queen of Shadows!
First Read (2021): Five stars
Even though I knew what would happen in the end, my heart still got broken soooo thanks for that Sarah, you emotionally breaking & heart destroying queen.
I'm glad I decided to read this before diving back into a reread of the series (through EoS, I haven't read this one or the last 2 books the first time around) because I felt like there were definite moments of foreshadowing and I really appreciated that. When Sam first told Celaena what he says to himself in moments of fear I immediately got the feels because thats where she gets her courage from and I was then reduced to a giant puddle of tears!!
I think I am ready to continue on with this series and get my heart trampled on again because I am in the mood for a good cry.
"My name is Celaena Sardothein, she whispered, and I will not be afraid."
