➸ The Crash is an addictive story from one of my favorite thriller authors. It takes place during the winter, in the midst of a blizzard.
➸ I really liked our main character, Tegan. She is very young and pregnant. It’s heartbreaking to see what she has gone through and how she ended up in her situation. As if that weren’t bad enough, she gets held hostage in a stranger’s home by a woman who believes her baby is actually hers. I feel like Tegan did everything she could to escape but was, unfortunately, at a disadvantage.
➸ We also follow the POV of Polly, the wife of a man named Hank. Hank is the one who picks up Tegan after her car crashes. Polly struggles with severe mental health issues and becomes convinced that the baby Tegan is carrying belongs to her. She also believes that Tegan doesn’t deserve the baby and isn’t making the right choices in its best interest—an unfair assumption, since she knows nothing about her. But even if Polly had known more, I don’t think it would have changed her mind—she was clearly not in a healthy state.
➸ Also, why didn’t Hank call 911 or take Tagan to the hospital sooner? In the end, he did the right thing, but he should have acted much earlier. He knew what his wife was doing was wrong.
➸ The twist at the end really got me. I didn’t expect the story to take that turn. It wasn’t something overly shocking or crazy, but it was still a solid twist.
➸ However, I feel like Hank and Polly got off too easily. I’m also a little scared for the child now living with them.
➸ Overall, this was a fun, addictive read that I would recommend to everyone. If you enjoyed Misery, you might want to check this book out!
"I've never killed anyone before. I'm not a murderer. I'm good person. I don't lie. I don't cheat. I don't steal. I hardly ever even raise my voice. There are very few things I've done I'm my life that I'm ashamed of. Yet here I am."
