This book literally started with a man getting ran over and had his head crushed by an actual truck in broad daylight and splattered our two main characters with blood. It was chaotic, to say the least, and a what a great way to start the book because the rest of it will be just as bleak.
I really enjoyed the writing and the pacing, it had the now & before format which i found extremely gripping. My only problem with the story itself was the decisions that the characters made, Verity especially. Now, listen. Grief might actually make you do really stupid things so I will try to suspend my disbelief here but writing about killing your child when in reality your child passed away in a tragic accident just seems like… well it was a…choice? Imagine if you’re a person with a working brain, your child passed away and people were already suspicious that you had something to do with it, and in a moment of grief you decide to write “oh yeah, my daughter? Fuck her, i killed that bitch” i’m paraphrasing obviously, but imagine how insane you need to be to DO that. If anyone found that manuscript, that’s admission of guilt, ma’am? Are you okay?
There’s a little neat twist as well in the end that I think I was better off without because it just made me roll my eyes. A twist after a twist always makes me mad, but that’s just me nitpicking. I read this in one sitting, i practically devoured it. Aside from all that, i think overall it was a fun reading experience!
