Descender, Vol. 3: Singularities
by Jeff Lemire
I enjoyed this one more than the first two. I'm starting to get attached to these characters and the world seems to have loads more to show us.
Here's my main issue with Descender as a whole, which I realised clearly in this third volume:
90% of the book takes place in the past. A lot of the second volume was also backstories. I understand that giving us a character's past is an easy way to make us like them and care about them - and that worked very well here (I especially LOVED the non-human backstories) - but if what's most interesting about these characters is their past, then maybe you're not telling the right story?
