After further thoughts and processing, this just wasn’t it for me.
I didn’t feel like the world was built well enough for me to understand what was going on, which then led to me not understanding the conflict being created between Lee and Annie. We just get thrown in with no context for anything beyond short flashbacks to their childhood that still don’t actually tell you anything.
It felt like the author couldn’t choose between character-driven or plot-driven and went with both. Which for me, didn’t work.
So DNR it is and moving on to other TBR books.
