Nothing But Blackened Teeth
by Cassandra Khaw
2.5⭐️
One of my most anticipated reads of the season, but sadly I’m pretty disappointed in it
The writing is stunning, but I found the plot got lost in the prettiness of the words. I had no idea what was going on most of the time, and I genuinely couldn’t tell you a detailed synopsis of the plot even after having finished it
I also felt like the main character was really passive, to the point that she felt like more of a spectator in the events of the book rather than someone actually experiencing the horrors of what was going on around her. She didn’t seem to care at all, and since it was from her perspective it was hard for me to care either
The atmosphere was excellent though! It had a super creepy vibe that I really enjoyed, and I liked the bits about the lore and everything
Overall, not the best read but I’m not mad I read it either. I might reread it physically instead of the audiobook and see if that helps me actually retain the plot lol
