I cannot begin to tell you how brilliant this book is. Nicky James has written an absolute masterpiece of a story with a gripping mystery that kept me turning the pages. Aslan, Quaid and Torin are faced with multiple suspects including teenagers - and don’t some of them have an attitude. The intriguing plot is intricately weaved and kept me guessing. I’d narrowed it down to two characters and even though I’d eventually, and very late in the piece, guessed correctly, I was still gobsmacked with the outcome even though the prologue was the perfect set up for the ending.

Amongst all the stresses of an ongoing investigation, Aslan and Quaid’s romance takes another major step forward after reassurances are made, feelings validated and an overall sense of security taking hold. Of course they still disagree on food choices, the supply closet gets another clandestine visit and there’s plenty of banter between them to lighten things up.

I love the way the relationship between these two wonderful men is developing and I’m looking forward to where the next book takes them.
