This finally helped me find the words for experiences and patterns of behaviour I was already aware of.

The characteristics of an emotionally immature parent felt familiar but the breakdown into the types of emotionally immature parent were especially insightful as I had not been aware of them.

When it came to the internalizer/externalizer section, I found that I already knew which type I was, and was familiar with the traits associated with it, but reading it still felt affirming.

The weakest part we’re the strategies on how to deal with such parents; they were more catered to children who had already moved on and out of their parent’s homes and who mainly conversed with them over the phone. And strategies like getting up and walking away or going for a walk are not always sustainable and accessible for adult children who are always in close proximity to their parents, who may have a parent that follows them around or whose words you can’t escape from.

Other than that I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to others.
