This book is getting a 3 because it’s interesting. But it needs a LOT of help. It can not decide if it wants to be a picture book, a coffee table book, or a novel. I think it should be an illustrated novel. The idea is intriguing. The picture book format it is in now is too long to keep many readers attention, and for big sci-fi readers the world building has to many holes. Why do they have glowing marks on their arms? What are the fires and where did they come from? How can beetles lead someone to water? Even if it is kept in its picture book form, the world building needs to be addressed. There are pages that read like a high school assignment that would receive a C, maybe a C+ at best. The illustrations are colorful and help sell the concept but they do not fill the holes in the story. There are instances where it seems the author wrote himself into a hole, and pop, something happens. In the desert with no water. Pop, wake up next to a pool. Get stabbed by a tree, pop your friend is there their to help. The concept and the art are there. The story needs work.
