I am always on the extreme side of the spectrum when it comes to books written by comedians. I feel like they're either a hit or a miss and there's no in between.
For me, "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo" was a hit. I'm a sucker for Long Island humor because it reminds me of my friends and the things we laugh about. Amy's voice is clearly her own, I felt like she was telling me these stories rather than some generic narrative voice. There were numerous points where I laughed out loud. One instance I had to walk out of a room because my laughter got uncontrollable and distracting. I loved the structure of the book and the way she pieced her life together so that it was relatable and interesting and messy and full of jokes but also full of wisdom. Amy Schumer is someone I would love to be friends with because judging her by her book, we'd get along well. If you're looking for a crude, sarcastic, witty, no holding back, laugh out loud account of the life of a comedian, look no further.
