Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
4.0
tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

i found kuangs writing to be equally as infatuating as normal, it just didn’t hit the mark that her first 4 novels did.

Juniper Song is a greatly insufferable character as i believe she’s meant to be, she represents so much that is wrong with the publishing industry however i also have found myself sympathizing with her. while waht she did was unforgivable and the way she behaved when brought with her guilt i still found myself seeing her as human. she’s a complicated character while she is never been a good person she still has moments where i understand her and why she did what she did. Jealousy is rampant in artistic spaces so it all makes sense, junes spiralling .

While a very interesting story i just didn’t enjoy it as much as The Poppy War trilogy and Babel but that’s just down to me preferring Fantasy
