Know My Name by Chanel Miller
5.0

An incredible memoir written by an incredible human. Her story needs to be read by all. If you read her victim impact statement and thought “wow” or “that’s impossible” or “the strength of this woman”, or “how the hell can someone think they have the right to violate another human”, get ready to think that over and over again. You will cry, you will yell, you will feel helpless, you will feel powerful, you will be inspired. This book is raw, intelligent, beautiful, empowering, and heart wrenching. If you read the audiobook, Chanel narrates it and it’s a powerful experience to hear her story in her own voice, full of emotions. This book is triggering. And that’s one of the many reasons why it needs to be read. So many of us have experienced and/or love someone who has experienced some form of sexual violence, assault, rape. Many things need to change, and Chanel’s memoir illustrates this in an potent way. I could not give this book higher praise or a higher recommendation. Read it, process it, and practice self care when you do so. Thank you, Chanel, for sharing your story. You are brave and beautiful beyond measure.
