The Angel of Khan el-Khalili is the last scrap I had to read in the Dead Djinn universe and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Set in his Dead Djinn universe, this short story was a wonderfully atmospheric tale about sisters and regret.

As always I loved Clark's world. This story unlike previous installments in the series focused on the underclass of Cairo. Clark captured the grit of wage labour, greed of capitalistic bosses, and desperation of workers excellently. I would love to see more stories set in this world of the more everyday citizens because their interactions with the speculative elements were richly presented here.

Our protagonist, a regret-fueled teen seeking a miracle to save her sister, was especially compelling. I instantly felt the love she had for his sister and the simplistic story allowed for her motivations and emotions to shine. Clark has a knack for writing rich and internal female characters so Aliaa, despite her limited page time, feels as richly crafted as any of Clark's other leads.

This was a quick and entertaining story that I would recommend equally to lovers of the Dead Djinn universe and newbies to the world. It's both a solid entry point into as well as an interesting new take on what I've seen before.
