The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
4.25

The Night Circus is a charming and very imagery-centric book I greatly enjoyed and will probably re-read. Fair warning though - it is slow to start and probably close to half the book involves quite a convoluted world-building and plot-setting phase which can make it hard to get into. Once that part is behind you, however, the plot itself is excellent, the characters are incredible, and of course the descriptive writing exceedingly beautiful. If I had been more hooked from the beginning this would have been five stars for me, but that slow beginning was in truth quite necessary and true to the tone of the novel. It's not the kind of book where action and excitement happens on every page and hurtles you towards a shocking conclusion, but it does transport you into a truly beautiful world and there is plenty of mystery, intrigue, and twists within. Highly recommended, will cause a craving for caramel-based junk food.
