This book was amazing. So enjoyable to read, and important as a narrative mainstream media too often overlooks. Mock tells her life story as a young poor trans woman of color with an attention to detail that gives her memoir a fiction-like flow with none of the dryness I typically fear from nonfiction. She is careful to highlight that her story is not meant to be read as *the* trans story, and she often expounds on privileges or disadvantages she had and how those factors lead her through her own path. She seamlessly weaves in these teaching moments with her story, treating complex issues with care and compassion throughout.
