jjonline 's review for:
The Lost Apothecary
by Sarah Penner
fun concept but not executed to my satisfaction
the parallel story where it just repeats what we already know and drags me through a bad relationship
about enough plot for a short story and not enough other stuff to make up for it. characters were static even though caroline found out her husband poisoned himself, like she was still so nice to him and didn’t actually stand up for herself and still resisted her dreams.
james is a bad husband, possibly abusive, and the narrative doesn’t seem to know that. he sucks so bad i wished she had poisoned him. manipulative and just generally not a good guy.
wish caroline and gaynor got together
i will probably never think about this again
