Courtroom Drama
by Neely Tubati Alexander
Thank you so much to Libro.FM & Harper Audio for the complimentary ALC!
This book will be out May 20th.
I have been a fan of Neely's work since her debut Love Buzz and I feel like she continues to get better with each book. I thought the concept of this book was right up my alley as being a fan of the movie Legally Blonde, a fan of the tv show Jury Duty as well as a former watcher of the Housewives. And truly this book is a combo of all 3!
I have never *knock on wood* been called for jury duty. So I have no idea what the process would be like but I know myself and I probably would be scared out of my mind especially if I were to get picked. But not Sydney. Sydney was born ready for this role and even more excited because if selected she would be apart of this high profile case focused on her favorite Authentic Moms of Malibu cast member Margot Kitsch. What Sydney was not prepared for was to be working along side her former childhood friend and crush Damon.
I love how we have two storylines happening in this - the court case and then after hours with Sydney and Damon. Neely provides us enough detail to make you feel like you are following along with the proceedings and that alone made me want to keep on listening because I wanted to know what the verdict would be.
Sydney did not want to have any sort of relationship with Damon. She tried so hard to not talk to him because she just didn't want to go down that rabbit hole and potentially be heartbroken by him. But as the case went on, they would start to spend more time together after hours and spent the time catching up on the years that they had been out of contact. I love that they had this history and how easy it is to lean on nostalgia when seeing someone from your past.
The audiobook was narrated by Cindy Kay who narrated another book that I read recently. I thought Cindy did such a great job with all the characters in the book! I felt like she nailed down Sydney little quirks and her inflection worked really well.
Overall I just really enjoyed this one! So if you are looking for a book that has a mix of legal court drama (wink) and romance - give this one a read!
