This novel is set in France during the time of the German occupation and Holocaust. Kristin Hannah has created an emotional masterpiece and I can truly say this novel is a solid 4.5 stars. I stayed up late two nights in a row because I could not put it down and I reluctantly finished, with tears. I am still thinking about Vianne and Isabelle...such courage...such strength. "I know now what matters, and it is not what I have lost. It is my memories. Wounds heal. Love lasts. We remain."
