When he was a young man, the Unquiet Emperor had banned questions, inquiries, curiosities, rhetoric, and finally question marks entirely, for such things were surely the source of all the mistrust and isolation in modern society
Valente is always an author that writes on a very fairytale-y way. it’s a bit dreamy and whimsical, plays more around with words instead of just using them and sharing what’s happening.
for her short fiction that really works for meY
honestly this reminded me a bit of alice in wonderful in it’s unexplainable strangeness.
but it’s a lot shorter and with that makes me enjoy it’s strangeness instead of starting to question it.
i enjoyed this very short little thing even if it leaves it’s ending wide open and everything completely unexplained.
for some reason this worked for me.
