Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim
4.0

First off, I love The Count it Monte Cristo. So, I was looking forward to a retelling, or a book loosely based off the story. Plus, a gender bender retelling? Even better!

This story did start out slow, and I mean sloooow. Which I usually do not mind. I love slow built plots and getting to learn about my characters and the world. However, this book was a bit hard to keep my attention, but I stuck it through because I figured the ending would make or break it for me.

I’m really glad I did because the ending was great! It was such a whirlwind and is why I gave it 4 stars because I think the ending tied a lot together and made me look forward to the next book. I do love books that build slowly up to a pretty epic ending.

I enjoyed Amaya’s and Cayo’s relationship. Cayo is just so cute and sweet, he’s just irresistible! And I loved seeing him learn that he doesn’t have to be like his father and learning the difference between what is the right thing to do and the wrong thing to do. Amaya took me a bit to warm up to, only because I’m a little biased and don’t really enjoy the whole revenge thing (even though I know that’s what the plot is all about really), but she grew on me and I enjoyed seeing her learn that not all are to blame for what happened to her and her family. I look forward to seeing what happens with them, as well as the others in the next book!
