Harleen by Stjepan Šejić
5.0

I received this book from DC Comics in a Goodreads giveaway.

I'm not exactly a Harley Quinn fan. I don't see the appeal of the pigtails and the trashy outfits and typically DC comics artwork can be a little dark for my taste. But this cover looked absolutely stunning so I was excited to give this comic a read through.

First I must say the art work is absolutely stunning. The dust jacket alone with the Harley/Harleen reveal on the actual cover is something I looked at for probably a solid 10 minutes. The detail and emotion Stjepan Sejic shows in his artwork is jaw droppingly gorgeous.

Now step away from the physical attributes that make this an amazing book and the story line does not disappoint either. Like I said previously I'm not a Harley Quinn fan naturally so I'm not super familiar with her story. This comic tells the backstory of how Harleen meets the Joker while she is working on a research project on whether criminals can show or feel empathy.

Watching Harleen steadily decline and loose faith in her society and seeing how she is drawn closer and closer to the Joker is such a delicious story. There's so much more depth to her background than I ever thought existed. I really truly felt for her at several moments in her narrative.

I highly recommend picking up this comic. You will not be disappointed.
