A Divorce Companion-The Best of the Great Escape Blog
by Lisa Thomson
Lisa Thomson becomes your best friend, your sister, and your confidant as you read A Divorce Companion.
The section “Courage” helps you to decide when to leave your marriage and gives you the confidence to proceed. There’s even an article about 10 things you can learn from Erin Brockovich, one of my favorite heroines.
“Transition” is full of Lisa’s insights. She shares personal looks into her life, which took courage to first put out there on her blog and then more to put in a book. The previous section and this one go together well. In “Transition” there’s advice on whether you should keep his name and how to find a new normal. Both are important stages all divorces have to navigate.
The third part is “Legal/Lawyer” and is packed with useful information including how to plan a divorce strategy and social media tips during/after divorce. I think the latter is a great addition to this book considering social media is such a big part of our society and social media can get us all into a mess if we’re not careful.
“Co-Parenting” is a crucial section for parents. When my parents divorced, I was a teenager, so there wasn’t co-parenting, but I know a few people who have divorced and have little kids. The advice in this section will provide great starting points.
I loved “Sex & Love” for its articles “Finding Your Inner Goddess” and “7 Deadly Sins He’s Not the One for You.” Fun but also essential for all women.
“Money” is a factor in all our lives, especially during life changes. Should you rent or buy during divorce? Lisa offers insight into this and discusses Christmas on a budget, something I appreciated very much. My mom struggled to provide for us for Christmas, but by making us handstitched and handcrafted items (quilts, etc.), we never went without. And I cherish those gifts more than anything now.
Some of my favorite posts on Lisa’s blog are the ones about narcissists, so I was especially happy to see these article in her book. They’ll make you chuckle but also open your eyes to possible narcissists in your life.
The final section is “Divorce Recovery & Healing” and is definitely the most crucial section. Having it at the end is perfect. When someone goes through a divorce, healing takes time. Lisa tells you that you are worthy, and you are!
If you’re contemplating divorce or are going through a divorce, this is the companion for you. If you know someone going through a divorce, this will be a helpful gift.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
