Ocean Sea by Alessandro Baricco
4.0

Holy Shit.
Ocean Sea is a masterpiece. I don’t know what to make of it completely. The writing is just brilliant! It’s a book that requires your full attention and patience! There’s a character out to find the end of the sea while writing love letters to his beloved (a woman he has yet to meet)… another dipping his brush into the ocean to paint a portrait of it while searching for the ocean’s eyes…. and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s love, revenge, humour, wit, melancholy, ocean (lots of it),weird characters, little people….

This is my first time reading Baricco and I was delighted by his beautiful and magical writing style. Parts of the book made me exclaim out loud (something that’s never happened to me before).
There’s so much I want to say about the book but I really don’t know where to start and I don’t want to give any of it away!

I’ll admit, there were some parts where I was a little lost and some that dragged on, but that’s because I’m still very new to this form of lyrical writing and not the most patient reader! I also don’t know how I feel about the ending - part of me loves it, the other part desperately wants more. But I definitely, wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s flawed, but it’s a masterpiece nonetheless.
