Unfortunately, this book didn’t live up to the hype I created for myself. The writing was awful, choppy, and full of unnecessary internal monologue and rhetorical questions. The characters were not consistent. The main love interest was super problematic, to the point where he locks Mulan up to “protect” her. There’s also some Asian erasure cause no one in the entire army of white men seems to notice Mulan isn’t white? She was bullied for it at home, but all of that is forgotten immediately when she leaves her village and disguises herself as a man. She also calls her love interest Wolfie (short for Wolfgang) and I wanted to throw up every time
