Julie Chan Is Dead by Liann Zhang

4.0

I’m not sure where to start with this book—I read it in just a couple of days because I couldn’t put it down. It’s a strong debut, and I love that the author is Canadian.

Julie and her twin, Chloe, were separated at a young age. Julie works at a supermarket. One day, she finds Chloe, a famous social media influencer-dead. Julie wonders, can she live Chloe’s glamorous life?

The first half gave me Yellowface vibes, but then things took a wild turn and I honestly wasn’t sure what was happening! Is it far-fetched? For sure. But somehow, it worked, and I’m still thinking about it. I have been asked if friends should read it, I say yes—just so we can talk about it afterwards!
