This one had me hooked about a quarter in but the start was slow and overall it wasn’t what I was expecting! I thought there would be more fantasy and a lot more on Emmett’s life as a binder but it leaned more towards a romance. This story was sad and frustrating and showed how horrible people could be. The concept behind book bindings is really cool but there are too many loopholes to how it works. For example the idea of they can’t take memories without consent.
The way Em had his memories taken did not seem like consent, he was forced into it and forced not to tell Seredith about the men that dragged him to the shop. The same can be said for Nel who technically gave her consent but was more so told what to do by her employer. I also hate that people who know someone’s memories can’t tell them what happened so it’s effects are more permanent if you don’t have your book.
I wish there was a little less suffering and a lot more happiness or at the very least more to the ending.
