Orange Is the New Black: My Year In a Women's Prison
by Piper Kerman
This was such a fun and entertaining and enlightening and interesting book to read.
I picked it up because of the fun I had watching the Netflix series, I have had it in my to read shelf for a while now and finally decided that I wanted to get to reading it.
It took me no time to get into this, it was so well written that you are right there with her from the first line to the last.
It is so much different then the series but in such a great way, it's very real and down to Earth. Everything she thinks and does and says is so human and endearing.
Her struggle of learning the ropes, finding friends, confidantes and people to really care for in prison really helped her to not only get through that year in prison but also to learn of herself and how she views the world. Having the people she did to support her was so helpful and it really opened my eyes to see who I have around me and realize that many of them are there for me in their own small ways.
I would recommend this to a lot of people and I already have, within the first few chapters I was already telling people they should read it and that holds true throughout the whole book.
The Netflix series brought me to this book and I am so grateful for that, it has shown me so much and gotten me to look at the world that surrounds me in so many different ways.
Highly recommended for all types of readers.
