Everything about this was better than I expected, though some of the humor elements got old over time and the cross-current with war times is just not my cup of tea. It is really good at framing ordinary scenes with empathy and personalities that really pop off the page. Top-of-the-line character work made this breezy.

Also, the audiobook is exceptionally narrated. Very much recommend consuming it that way. Who knew someone could articulate that many different voices? Always astounded when you come by a talented narrator like that.
