This is a book of poetry that I absolutely loved! Ha is telling her story about moving to America from Saigon, during the Vietnam War. Her father is also missing and they have to decide whether to leave and risk missing his return or stay and letting the war come to their doorstep.

At times, this story was heartbreaking but at the same time very inspiring. Since this whole book is told in verse, it was a very fast read. Considering that it’s also middle grade, I think I read it in half an hour.

There’s a lot in here about learning new cultures, trying to fit in, persevering, bullies, and family. This is a short review, I know. It’s a short book and you should just read it.
