Evil Eye
by Etaf Rum
An entirely gripping and devastating story of a Palestinian-American woman working her way through generational trauma and questioning if her life feels like it’s “enough.” This explores not only the handing down of trauma through generations, but cultural traditions, familial expectations, therapy, feminism, friendship, and motherhood. The conflict and guilt of being a working mom who also wants to be involved in her kids’ lives hit home for me, but this entire storyline pulled at my heartstrings and had me trying to hold back tears. Yara is an incredibly brave and strong main character, and I highly recommend that you read her story!
