I was lucky enough to be provided an e-arc (electronic advanced readers copy) copy of this debut novel and boy am I glad I put my hat in the ring for this one! It’s always a little nerve wracking reading an arc from an author you have not read from before. However, the nerves were 100% unfounded in this case.
To be clear… I am writing this review about 3 weeks after I actually binge read this book due to having an accident I have needed surgeries and all sorts, but this book honestly gave me something to think about during that time and even turned up in some of my medication hazed dreams. The obsession is real my friends!

Ok so let me tell you a little about this book to tantalise your reading radar… yes I said that… deal with it! 🤭
So The False Queen by Meg Humble is a New Adult, enemies to lovers, Romantasy. A witchy tale of a human girl coming of age being raised by the queen witch. Despite being human herself she has been raised to be a weapon against humans and set the mission to lure the prince of the human realm to love her so that her mother can swoop in and exact revenge on the evil humans. Blaise has never questioned what she has been raised to know until living in the human realm and faced with an impossible decision… give her family their revenge or take the side of the humans and maybe even experience love.

Now let me start with this… the only predictable part is the falling in love part. Trust that you know nothing until the very end. Meg Humble has done an excellent job of weaving this tale and allowing you to become completely enmeshed. The attachment I felt to the characters was unreal and don’t think that a new adult book will not break your heart… it will… and then maybe even put it back together. My only real complaint if you can call it that is… I would LOVE this to have an audiobook at some point.

This book is perfect for you if you love a witch vibe, with characters you can root for and some that you hope trip and fall into a well. If you like to have twists and turns you won’t see coming and a world you can visualise clearly. It has the witchy vibes of Serpent & Dove, the character vibes of Six of Crows, and the twists and turns of a really good thriller. I highly recommend this book to anyone who even is slightly intrigued! Thank you so much to Meg Humble for the opportunity to read this ahead of publication… It has been a true highlight of my reading year!
