The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0

Oh boy, how do I describe this book? Taylor Jenkins Reid always writes about characters who are famous in such a way that I almost believe they're real. I found myself wondering, Why have I never heard of Evelyn Hugo? before remembering that she is, in fact, a fictional character. Reid writes so realistically, and you can tell her characters just come to life while she's writing. Therefore, they come to life as the reader is reading.
The basic plot of this novel is that a journalist named Monique finds herself faced with interviewing a famous movie star. Evelyn tells this journalist her life story, wherein Monique finds certain parallels between her life and her own recent divorce.
There is one major plot point, which I will not spoil. I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 simply because this plot point is way too obvious. I was able to figure out what happened from the beginning. While the background story and the way it happened was fresh, it was pretty clear from the moment Monique started interviewing Evelyn what exactly was going to happen.
However, this book was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it, especially to those who enjoy reading savvy gossip-type novels. It was chock full of tabloid articles, which explained what the media thought Evelyn and her seven husbands, and her one true love, were up to. This was really intriguing to me, and sort of highlighted certain aspects of tabloid and gossip mongers that can be really toxic to this day.
