Once a Queen
by Sarah Arthur
1.5 stars. A lot of world building but not a lot of movement. There is a lot of hinting at the magical world, but the reader only gets a small taste of actually experiencing it. Just as the action begins, the book ends. This had such great promise, but fell flat. The writing felt a bit forced, with the word choice sometime feeling quite awkward. There was also a lot of prose that felt like the author was talking down to the reader, as if the reader couldn't deduce certain facts on their own. This book was fairly anticipated for me this year, so it was quite a disappointment to have it be so lackluster.
