This book deserved a 3 star rating until the last quarter of it, then it got bumped up. It is funny all the way, it will appeal to anybody who is interested in sci-fi, its television shows in particular. But that was it at this point, a fun story with a nice twist. The third act brought something else to it, a depth I didn’t really see coming.

I have to commend John Scalzi for achieving this. It is a pleasure to read (at least for a Trek nerd like me), the pace is good, the characters have good arcs and it has some very funny moments (laughing out loud in public space kind of funny). I do believe it won’t age all that well because of all the references to the 2010s’s social structure and technology (iPhones, Facebook, Google, etc.) but whatever, every book is a product of its time.
