On Tour
by Zoe Sugg
Sometimes it is nice to wake up in the morning and treat yourself to a lie in with a book. I picked a good one today. I had high expectations going into this second book. Contemporary duologies can be tricky to achieve. This sequel did just that.
Amidst the ghost writer scandal I stood by my original review of Girl Online and my thoughts on Zoe. I could tell that Zoe put a lot of effort into these characters and their story. The story is written in Zoe's voice; with references to her favourite things galore. (GBK to Photography) While it isn't the most polished; it feels more authentic than any author i've read before. I love Penny's voice. (probably has something to do with my love for Zoe and her voice) But, I feel like it champions the everyday girl which sometimes gets pushed aside for other protagonists in young adult.
I am so proud of the "reveal" of sorts. I didn't see it coming (I never do.) Character progression was done well as always and the setting makes the book. From beautiful Brighton to the even more stunning European cites like Rome and Paris. The setting really had expanded beyond New York. My only complaint would be some of Noah's out of character moments. It was part of his progression and his changed mindset on tour but I just found myself not loving him as much as I did in Girl Online.
Zoe, if you want to write a third book, I will definitely read it. I could continue to read Penny's story forever, but if this is the end. Thank you! I haven't read many Youtuber books and I chose to read yours for a reason. You've always wanted to write as a child and you produced a work of fiction not some memoir about your life. You expanded the horizon and i'm grateful for that.
