This is good YA.
An exciting adventurous story that parallels a real world battle to liberate, educate, and empower oppressed girls everywhere. The setting is generic—in a good way—spanning several landscapes that could be middle anywhere. And the people are as diverse as our own world provides, forging allegiances between unexpected characters, all beautifully relatable. There’s even a bit of predictable (but no less welcome) romance.
Though not full of complex vocabulary and quite void of any poetic phrasing, it’s a girl-powered fantasy-style adventure, super easy to read (with lots of discussion-worthy social undertones), and a great hoorah for the universal sisterhood. This will be especially enjoyed by readers in the young adult age group of 13+, but might be a bit ‘young’ feeling for anyone in their 20s.
