This graphic novel was truly amazing. I don't know what I was expecting when I started reading it, but it wasn't this book, and it exceeded whatever expectations I might have had.

I remember seeing these comics growing up. I remember flipping through a couple of pages and not being interested in it. At 11-12, I wanted classic superhero, not deep thoughts and strange art. Reading it today, I am truly impressed with what it did.

There is so much in these books that one can dissect and one wants to re-read over and over again. I do appreciate the small mentions of gay culture, of AIDS, of issues that weren't being brought up in comics. Granted, these were only brought up in passing, but it was more than many other comic books had.

The art in this book is strange, glorious, and beautiful. You get a sense of the desperation of some of the characters, you feel for Dream as he makes his way finding his possessions. He doesn't shy away from the grotesque but he doesn't over indulge in it either.

I HIGHLY recommend this and can't wait to read others.
