This book for the most part was a text book of information for all the questions you had and then some. However, unlike the information being delt creatively and delicately like it was in the first two books I felt like it was really heavy handed and far less enjoyable. The voice of the teachings makes so much sense I do understand why the tone and delivery changed. But it wasn’t as enticing for me… If I where to give a star rating on this aspect alone it would be a solid three stars. However as always, what Sanderson has done absolutely brilliantly is the battles and fight scenes and they did not disappoint. There was one major aspect of this book that was unlike the first two I found anyhow and that was the emotion. It was quite touching to go so deeply into the different variations of depression, and how someone might deal with it from a particular point of view. He also made me care so much more about the characters this time around. In The Final Empire, I cared very little for any of them. In the Well Of Ascension, I cared for a few of them. In the Hero Of Ages, I found myself tearing up (not sobbing) but defiantly emotional for nearly all of them. And that is something I did not expect. Although after two thousand pages I would hope to have somewhat of a connecting with the characters. Thank you, Brandon Sanderson, for finally making me care.
Can the final quarter of a book and my subtle tears make up an entire two entire stars? I don’t believe so... So a solid 4 stars in the end. And stoked that I finally got some emotional connection to all the characters more than just TenSoon. In summary the entire message across this series and how it all came together has been stunning, beautiful and far more touching than I ever would have expected. Can easily say that the Misborn series is one of my favorites of all time. Even taking into consideration the many negates I’ve had across all three books, for the most part I’ve loved the entire ride. Would even consider doing a re-read one day in the future. Surround me in that mist and find me that family.
