Resisting Maxu
by Victoria Aveline
adventurous
medium-paced
👀👀 Ms Aveline, ma'am. WHAT!! 😱
If you're a fan of Theo, you'll love Maxu.
Plot Summary:
Meg isn’t like the other alien abduction survivors. She doesn’t miss much of anything from her former life—least of all her deadbeat husband. Her Clecanian rescuers gave her a fresh start, and she plans to enjoy it. Being recognized as a mate is not on her agenda.
Maxu never expected to find his fated mate. But he recognized Meg at first sight. Sadly, she’s not as pleased with the match as he is. She’s guarded in a way he doesn’t entirely understand and pushes him away at every turn.
Meg can run, but she soon realizes there’s nowhere to hide—not from a hunter like Maxu. But that doesn’t mean she’ll give in easily. If he wants a happily ever after with her, he’ll have to fight for it. Good thing he’s not above playing dirty.
Thoughts:
I feel like my thoughts need to be separated into two categories: 1. The individual romance and 2. The overarching storyline.

I feel like my thoughts need to be separated into two categories: 1. The individual romance and 2. The overarching storyline.
1. The Romance:
From the beginning, I've loved Meg and Maxu as characters. The snippets we get about them in earlier books are so good and really set up their story here so well. I feel like, despite Maxu recognizing Meg instantly, their relationship still felt the most realistic and well developed out of the bunch.
The husband back on Earth scenario worried me at first (view spoiler)
My only complaint was how it felt like the relationship took a backseat at about the 75% mark. (But I also understand because of all the other drama that unfolds). I just wanted MORE
2. The Storyline:
HOLY CRAP. So throughout this series, the author has been setting the scene in the background. The insurgents, the reveal of humans and what they mean for Clecania as a whole, the political ramifications of this reveal, etc. But this book REALLY pops off in terms of digging into the political unrest that is spreading across the planet. We get to see other cities, other societies and their customs. We also get to see how these societies are feeling about Tremanta being the home base for the humans. It's pretty damn wild. AND THE ENDING IS INSANE!!! I was kind of worried around the 80% mark - it felt like everything was too settled and then BAM. By the 90% mark, the story took an insane turn. What an ending!
