annieca 's review for:
Education in Nazi Germany
by Lisa Pine
I picked this book up at my university library for some background on a paper about postwar education reforms. Shortly after I started reading it, I was unhappy I had. Pine's research seems in order (though she does have a tendency to under-note her writing). It is 100% her delivery I had a problem with. It felt more college term paper than serious academic scholarship. "Hitler said: "...". "Hitler also said..." A successful writer can weave in quotes to prove a point instead of an entire paragraph of Hitler quotes back to back with no analysis until the end.
Maybe a better editor would have salvaged this book, but for me, it's a complete dud.
