I adored A Marvellous Light so I had high expectations going into A Restless Truth. Unfortunately I was ultimately disappointed.

That is not to say that this is a bad book. I enjoyed the plot and the worldbuilding, and there were several characters I liked a lot too. Sadly though, I did not like the romance. I didn't become at all invested in their relationship, and almost every scene between them just made me want to get back to the plot. There were a lot of scenes relating to sex, pornography and scandal and I just didn't enjoy them. Essentially I would have liked the book a lot more if it was not in fact a romance novel. 

I would still recommend the book because it advances the plot from book one in a satisfying way, and no doubt many readers will disagree with me regarding the romance. I will also definitely be continuing the series when the next book is released, especially as it apparently will revolve around Lord Hawthorn, who intrigues me a lot as a character. I'm just disappointed that I didn't love book two the way I wanted to.
