I love Madeline Miller. The fact that this is her debut novel is just ridiculous to me because it is so good.

That being said, I actually prefer Circe, her follow up book, to this. Maybe it’s because I read Circe first, but that book holds a special place in my heart. I also think this book is so incredibly hyped. So many people told me, “If you like Circe, just wait until you read Song if Achilles! It’s so much better!” So I had such high expectations because I already adored Circe. So when I finally read this I was just the slightest, teensiest bit underwhelmed.

The characters are great, and the story is recognizable to anyone who is familiar with Greek mythology, and and the same time interesting in the spin it puts on the original myths.

I hope that Madeline Miller continues writing these types of books and that there isn’t another 7-year gap between Circe and her next book.
