Big Wolf & Little Wolf by Nadine Brun-Cosme
4.0

Age: Preschool +
Animals: Wolves
Family: Siblings--although not identified as brothers

A free verse tale from France about two wolves, one big and one little. When Little Wolf walks up to Big Wolf's tree, Big Wolf is curious and hesitant but certainly not hostile. Little Wolf proceeds to follow Big Wolf around. Big Wolf is annoyed but begins to admire the courage of Little Wolf. One day Big Wolf leaves his tree for a walk and Little Wolf does not follow. Happy to be away from this new creature, Big Wolf continues happily on his walk. Upon his return, Little Wolf is no longer under the tree. For the first time in his life, Big Wolf is lonely and nervously waits for Little Wolf's return.

I appreciated how easy this book was to read-aloud. Perhaps I was in the mood to read-aloud, but it was very easy to add emotional intonation to the story. I wonder if the author translated it herself.

A well-written story about the importance of human contact and the influence of a newcomer on a person's (wolf's) life.
